World Bridge Series by Barnet Shenkin prev/next

The World Bridge Series takes place over the next two weeks in Philadelphia. I shall be coming out of semi retirement to play in a couple of events there. Four years ago I played on a mainly US team in Verona Italy, that finished tied fifth in the World teams event. This year I am playing with 3 Norwegians, 1 Danish player and my partner is Dutch. A nice blend of Europeans. This tournament is held every 4 years and I played in Montreal,Lille,,Biarritz and Geneva in 1990.
Geneva was the setting for another extraordinary story in the history of bridge when the Canadian team suffered a misfortune that could have been the title of their national anthem  with an extra comma    Oh, Canada

To read the amazing story just click the link above.I will try and post some blogs and articles from the site.

Regarding the 1990 tournament:  Chaos can be avoided when rules are in place, followed, and upheld.   However, rules can (and sometimes should) be broken.  This decision of the winner was not a shining example of the spirit of the game.  Human error and technological errors do occur, and this error in recording the score of a hand determined a champion.  Pity.
