Hugh Kelsey
Hugh first tried his hand writing detective stories before finding his real niche writing bridge books. In my opinion he is one of the best ever bridge writers and his first book “Killing Defense in Bridge” with a picture of a revolver on the cover is a classic and helped my own “bridge thinking” immensely, along with that of thousands of others. All his books are top notch and a must for any serious bridge player.
A man of quiet demeanour, he was easy to talk to as a teammate and a friend.
I had the privilege of joining Hugh and his partner John McMonagle on the Scottish team in 1979 when Scotland won The Camrose Trophy with an unchanged team for the three matches. I partnered Victor Goldberg.
