You are in West and hear South open 1♠ you x it goes 4♠ all pass. You lead the ♥Q it goes K, ♥5 from partner ♥8 from declarer. Declarer leads a ♦ from Dummy and plays the 9 from hand what do you do?

First you can’t duck this or declarer will pitch a club on the the ♥A. THE BIG CLUE is that Declarer has not played a trump. Surely had he the ♠A he would have crossed to his hand and pitched a ♣ on the ♠A.

Play the ♠2 to partner’s Ace and she will return a club so you can cash the setting tricks.

Idea:

Try and work out declarer’s plan and use it to your advantage in finding a counter.
